Transportation solutions for international visa holders working in the U.S.

Frequently Asked Questions

Before Coming to the U.S.
Do I need to make a car decision prior to my arrival?
While making transportation arrangements in advance is not required, we highly recommend doing so. If you make your arrangements with CHL at least a week before you arrive in the U.S., we can have your car waiting for you in your new community. That’s one less thing you’ll have to deal with as you settle into your new home and country!
What licenses do I need to bring to the United States?
You should bring both an international license and your home country license.
Payments and Financing
Can I change the date my monthly payment is drafted from my checking account?
No. Your draft date (either the 1st or 15th of the month) corresponds with the date you receive your vehicle and cannot be changed.
Do I need to let CHL know if I open a new bank account?
Yes. Please fax or mail CHL a copy of a voided check from your new account. Please notify CHL at least five days in advance of your draft date to ensure there are no penalties for insufficient funds.
Driving and Auto Maintenance
Who is allowed/not allowed to drive my CHL leased car?
Under the terms of the agreement, the only people allowed to drive a CHL leased car are the CHL customer and your spouse. Your spouse will need to have a valid U.S. state driver’s license. NO other drivers are allowed to drive your car.
What should I do if I have a maintenance problem with my CHL leased car?
Call CHL to get prior approval for maintenance repairs before having the work completed. We can help you select a legitimate vendor and keep the cost down.
Insurance
How do I add or remove a vehicle from my CHL insurance policy?
To add a vehicle to your CHL policy, please contact CHL for an insurance agreement. This information requires your signature and must be submitted by fax or mail. A request in writing (by e-mail, fax, or mail) is required to remove a vehicle from an insurance policy. Please provide the date that the vehicle needs to be removed.
Car Rentals
Does my CHL insurance policy cover rental cars?
No! CHL’s insurance policy is not transferable to rental vehicles. If you plan to rent a car during your stay in the U.S., CHL recommends that you purchase the additional insurance coverage offered by the rental car company. If you have insurance through a carrier other than CHL, you should check with that carrier for information on coverage of rental cars.
When do I need to return my 14-day CHL car rental?
Your rental officially starts on the date/time that you pickup the rental car, and runs consecutively for 14 days. (For example: If you pick up your 14-day rental on July 6, 2007 at 3:45pm, you must return the car to the same location no later than July 19, 2007 at 3:45pm.)
What if I go beyond the 14-day CHL rental car period?
If you go over the allotted 14 days, you become personally responsible for any payment and insurance claims or payments.
